Bonus Chapter 1: Lies of Cake

Smoke jammed his knife between the cushions of a couch that tried to grind him into a fine red paste. Despite the couch's best efforts to shake him off, he maintained a death grip on the knife and jammed it in until he heard a clicking noise. Once the couch stopped moving, he retrieved the knife and slashed into the cushioning.

Meanwhile, Rain used his staff to cause water to burst forth from beneath the kitchen sink, destroying it in the process. Focusing his magic on this water, he slammed it into the oven, shattering it in a mighty blow. He then doused the swiftly appearing flames.

"How is everything coming along?" Smoke asked. He had moved on to stabbing a lamp with his knife.

"Whoever tried to kill us was a fool," Rain began. "By placing this trailer over water, they inadvertantly gave me a weapon." To demonstrate his point, he slammed the water he had previously destroyed the stove with into the refrigerator.

Their destructive efforts were going smoothly... for a while. Smoke spotted a delicious-looking cake on the kitchen table.

"What a delicious looking cake..." Smoke said once he spotted the cake. He carefully approached it, knife in hand.

Hmm... it is a beautiful cake... but what would it be doing here? Smoke thought. And why do I hear a ticking noise coming from it?

"Smoke... this might sound insane, but you are face to face with a bomb," Rain calmly told him. He had just finished destroying a book shelf.

"So that explains the weird ticking sound," Smoke said disappointedly.

"Cakes don't tick," Rain stated matter-of-factly. Thinking quickly and noticing the rapidly increasing pace of the ticking noise, Smoke opened the window and tossed the chocolate cake outside.

Rain quickly cast a spell to summon a bubble shield over himself and Smoke. Seconds later, the cake exploded, shaking the trailer and causing the shield to ripple. He dismissed the shield once the explosion died down.

Sometime later, Smoke and Rain were walking away from the trailer, which now lay in ruins.

"I'm so glad we thought to ask Lord Liu Kang his opinion on this first," Smoke said. "If we hadn't, who knows if we'd still be alive tomorrow."

"It was nice working with you, but I'm afraid it's time we went our separate ways," Rain replied. "I have no doubt your family and clan are worried for your safety. As for myself, I need to inform General Shao and Empress Sindel about this."

"May we meet again under different circumstances," Smoke said as he and Rain parted ways. Unknown to them, this was merely the start of something much bigger.
